The School of Architecture (SoA)
Digital Fabrication Lab (DFL)
RULES
1. Show UP
Everyone is busy and time is always limited. If you sign up for a cut time or a print time then you need to show up. If you miss more than ONE cut time per term the faculty supervisor reserves the right to eliminate your cut/print privileges.
2. Use Your Time
It is recommended that you arrive at least five minutes before your assigned lab time to allow the lab assistant to upload your file. During peak periods (e.g., midterms or finals), jobs exceeding the 15-minute slot will be stopped at the 15-minute mark to allow the next student to begin. Additional cutting time is not guaranteed and should be considered a privilege, not an expectation.
3. You Are 100% Responsible
4. The DFL is not a Storage Space
Projects, cut pieces, or materials may not be kept in the DFL without prior approval from the faculty supervisor. Any items left in the DFL without permission are subject to disposal at the end of each day.
5. The DFL is not a Work Space
Project assembly, finishing, or additional work is strictly prohibited within the DFL under all circumstances.
6. Lab Assistants
Are happy to help answer questions but NOT during cut time slots. Please e-mail any DFL employee or the faculty supervisor with questions or set up an appointment to discuss your project.
7- Estimated Timelines – No Guarantee of Completion
All timelines provided by DFL and its associates are only estimates and DO NOT guarantee completion by the indicated dates or time. Unexpected events may cause significant delays.
Therefore, we strongly recommend starting early and allowing sufficient time to accommodate unforeseen circumstances, as DFL and its associates cannot be held responsible for such delays.
8- Laser Cutting vs. 3D Printing Estimates
The QR code provides the estimated timing only for laser cutter services. For 3D printing, please contact one of our associates directly to receive a time estimate.
9- DFL Availability & Holiday Closures
Please stay connected to the DFL web site for the most up-to-date availability hours.
NOTE: The DFL is ALWAYS closed for University holidays or official University Closure days.
10- File Preparation & Delay Disclaimer
Corrupted files cause significant delays. Please ensure your file is fully prepared and ready to use. If you require assistance from one of our associates to correct or prepare your file, an additional charge will apply. Please note that this may also result in further delays, as the service depends on the availability of the associate familiar with the process and the required software.
11- SoA Rights to Document and Publish Work
By using DFL services, you acknowledge that you are benefiting from the affordable resources and facilities of the School of Architecture (SoA). As a condition of use, you grant SoA the unrestricted right to photograph, document, and/or reproduce the final outcomes of your work. These images may be used, published, printed, or reprinted by SoA for educational, promotional, and institutional purposes, including but not limited to the SoA website, social media accounts (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook), and other official SoA publications, without the need for further permission or additional approval from you.
12- Acknowledgment of DFL Rules
Requesting DFL services indicates that you have read, understood, and agreed to all current DFL policies and rules.
